Victor Wembanyama Wins Rookie Of The Year
Anything Victor Wembanyama is associated with is automatic history or continued history; what does that mean? Well, he has won this year’s Rookie of the Year award, and he did it unanimously – which is historic all unto itself.
He is the third member of the San Antonio Spurs to win this award after receiving all first-place votes; he joins David Robinson (1989-90) and Tim Duncan (1997-98). Wembanyama secured all 99 first-place votes.
What makes this even cooler is the fact he is the first to do it since Karl-Anthony Towns did it in 2015-16.
The 20-year-old was the clear winner when realizing he led all rookies in points, rebounds, and blocks per game. He is the second player in NBA history to lead the league, not just rookies, in blocks. Additionally, Wembanyama became the first player to average at least 20.0 points, 10.0 rebounds, and 3.0 blocks in fewer than 30 minutes per game in a season.
Also, he is the first to notch 1,500 points, 700 rebounds, 250 assists, 250 blocks, and 100 three-pointers made in a season.
People speculate that this version of Wemby will be his “worst” compared to his long career in the National Basketball Association. His rookie season is being debated as one of the greatest rookie seasons in history.
