NBA Insider Says Victor Wembanyama Likes The Trae Young To Spurs Idea
The San Antonio Spurs need a point guard, and they have the draft picks to do so this season; however, what if they want to go out and trade for a player? Well, General Manager Brian Wright is eyeing up Trae Young.
Young is an experienced point guard who is a 25/10 player, which is the exact production a team like the rebuilding Spurs would want to have. They’ve made a deal with the Atlanta Hawks before, that being the Dejounte Murray trade, and wouldn’t be afraid to do it again.
While mulling on that idea, Victor Wembanyama is all-in on that idea. The alien finds it “intriguing.”
“I will say I’ve talked to people who know Wemby who have indicated he is at least intrigued by that idea,” said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective podcast. “Now, intrigued by that idea and pounding the table are two very different things. I have no idea whether Gregg Popovich would be intrigued by the idea.”
If key members are interested, then Wright may pull the trigger. But, if they want to go the draft route, then they’ll hold off on making a deal with Atlanta’s General Manager Landry Fields.
Also, despite Young’s serious defensive liabilities, there is a growing theory that Wemby is great enough defensively to pick up the slack. If they don’t find that to be favorable, they could look at prospect Stephon Castle.
