Less than a week after returning to WNBA action, Caitlin Clark is already making her opponents beg for mercy and breaking more records. The one she broke was standing strong for 26 years, which was broken on Sunday.

Clark is now the new record holder for the most assists in a season by a WNBA rookie, a record originally held by Ticha Penicheiro. Penicheiro had 224 assists in a season, but with nine assists against the Seattle Storm, Clark surpassed her with 232 assists.

This record was bound to be broken when the 22-year-old realized she was averaging 8.3 assists per game this season. Not only is she leading rookies in assists per game, but the same goes for non-rookies and veterans.

She’s been breaking records all season, but most recently, besides this one, she recorded 19 assists in a game against the Dallas Wings. This took place in the middle of July.

The former Iowa Hawkeyes guard continues adding herself to history books and picking up hardware. This time during the 2024 ESPY’s.

Caitlin Clark was recognized and won two major awards. The first one was for the best record-breaking performance, as that was based on her setting the Division I career scoring mark in both men’s and women’s basketball. It was 3,951 points to be exact.

The second one was being recognized as the best women’s college athlete, which is no shock knowing how Clark averaged 31.6 points, 8.9 assists, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.7 steals per game in her last season with Iowa.

While she wasn’t in attendance to accept the awards due to her upcoming game against the Phoenix Mercury, the 22-year-old did accept them virtually.

“I just wanted to say thank you for this recognition. Obviously, I could not be there tonight. I’m a little bit busy in Indianapolis.”

The Indiana Fever defeated the New York Liberty on Saturday afternoon, but that isn’t the talking point. The main takeaway from today’s game is the incredibleness of Caitlin Clark and the three separate pieces of history she created.

A very typically grabbed rebound secured Clark her first career triple-double; shockingly enough, she is the first Fever player to record a triple-double. Her 19/12/13 game did create league history as a rookie.

According to the WNBA, the 22-year-old is the first rookie to record a triple-double in league history.

Clark averages 16.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 7.1 assists in 34.4 minutes per game. Although she’s only played 22 games in her professional career, this is impressive, given how much history she has created and cemented herself in.
