Jordan Clarkson wins the Sixth Man Of The Year Award!
Jordan Clarkson wins the Sixth Man Of The Year Award! Clarkson had an impressive season for the Sixth Man Of The Year Award; but what makes it even more impressive is the fact that he was able to edge out his teammate Joe Ingles and then Knick’s veteran, Derrick Rose.
Clarkson in his seven-year career is having his best season yet with a team that can widely and smartly use him; especially as a sixth man. Right? He is averaging 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists per game for 68 games. Everyone was speculating who it would be then it was shaping up with the final three; which were Clarkson, Rose, and Ingles. If you think about it the Jazz had a 66.7% chance of winning the award, if going off of the remaining players.
It was a close contest, how? Well, first of all let’s go off of stats and then we can go off of votes. We already know what Clarkson produced while coming off the bench; however, what did the other two produce while being a sixth man?
Let’s firstly take a look at Joe Ingles, the teammate of Jordan Clarkson. Joe averaged 12/4/3 per game and for Rose it was 14/4/1; now for the most impact that was made on the team, Ingles was not even close as he is not the impact type of player. He is more of a playmaker when able be on the court; however, he is just more for passing. Now, for Clarkson. That is a different story, why? Because he knows how to shoot consistently, can make a splash when needed, and shows that he can pass, dribble, and shoot. He is a three-way player and it is not even close.
So, what is my personal feeling of Rose then?
To me, I thought that Rose should have won the award because his time with the Knicks meant so much to the rookies and to the first/second-year players. He had great playing time, clutch shots (like in this past Hawks-Knicks game), and has the leadership and veteran-like qualities to help his team. Especially for what this role was looking for.
I knew it was going to be close between the two, yes, however, I was looking for Rose to win. However, both teams are in the playoffs. This means that these players are now able to help their teams more in hopes of a second round. In hopes of more accomplishments to come, right? So that is where we are currently.
How was the news broken to Jordan Clarkson?
With both being teammates TNT actually used that to their advantage. Meaning this, that they asked Clarkson how many times a Jazz player has won this award. His response? None. But wait! That was until Ingles raised his finger and walked on over to Clarkson and presented him the award; they preplanned this for Clarkson’s surprise and gratefulness.
“Thanks for passing me this ball, man,” Clarkson said with a smile.
