According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Boston Celtics have traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers for Paul George, two first round picks, and two second round picks. The two first-rounders are in 2028 and 2031, as the two second-rounders are in 2028 and 2030.

After failing to trade Brown to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, Boston went on the hunt for teams who were willing to part ways with several draft picks and a quality player. Numerous reports stated around “8-10” teams were interested in having a conversation with Brad Stevens’ team.

Brown is on a $57 million contract for the 2026-27 season, $61 million in 2027-28, and $64.9 million in 2028-29. The 29-year-old will be eligible for a a two-year, $141.8 million contract extension.

George is owed $54.1 million in 2026-27 and has a player option worth $56.6 million in 2027-28. George is currently 36-years-old and has a history of being injury prone. Last season, he appeared in just 37 games. The last time he played in more than 60 games was back in 2023.

Last season, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 71 games.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Boston Celtics did submit proposal offers to the Milwaukee Bucks, but ultimately the Miami Heat’s offer was selected. This led to Giannis Antetokounmpo being traded to team up with Bam Adebayo, Andrew Wiggins, Norman Powell, and others.

Boston’s offer was Jaylen Brown and two first round picks. This emphasized pushing an offer that was superstar driven and not a volume-based, breaking the bank type offer. Completely different than the offer submitted by Pat Riley’s Heat.

It is unclear if Brown will be fully shopped now, but there is a reportedly growing expectation of him being offered to teams who do show interest. The Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and Houston Rockets all have shown interest in him. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst has confirmed these rumors and turned them into reports.

Brown is eligible for a contract extension this offseason and is signed until the 2029 offseason.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Boston Celtics could add another name to the long drawing pool of teams who are interested in acquiring Jaylen Brown.

The Portland Trail Blazers have made it clear that they have “serious interest” in trading for the 29-year-old guard, if he were to be made available on the open market by Brad Stevens’ Celtics.

Portland is in a very unique situation, as, due to the 2023 Damian Lillard involving the Milwaukee Bucks, they have three first-round picks in 2028, 2029, and 2030. All valuable picks to legitimately offer to Boston.

Many speculate that around two-to-three draft picks is the asking price for Brown; it’s unclear if the Celtics have a requirement on the type of player(s) they seek in return.

Joe Cronin’s team has an obvious need they need to fill, which is featuring that wing spot. Acquiring Brown would most definitely fill that need.
