According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Golden State Warriors have officially signed Al Horford to a multi-year deal. This has been rumored to happen since the beginning of free agency.

An important note to make is that this is just a commitment, Horford will “officially” sign a contract when the Jonathan Kuminga situation is resolved.

This explains why years and amount of money given to Horford were not detailed in ESPN’s latest breaking news.

The 39-year-old is entering his 19th season, as last season saw him appear in 60 games for the Boston Celtics. Horford has made it clear he has no thoughts of retiring soon, as he wants to compete for another championship.

According to Jake Fischer, the Golden State Warriors and former Boston Celtics player Al Horford are close on a contract agreement. However, the Jonathan Kuminga situation is stalling those talks as he wants them to resolve that issue first.

Once the Kuminga issue is dealt with, Horford is expected to sign a two-year, over $11 million deal with the Warriors. He would use the full taxpayer midlevel exception for this upcoming season, which would land him $5.685 million for 2025-26.

The second season would be a player option, as the Warriors are hoping this type of contract is to his liking. Golden State highly values his ability to stretch the floor and being able to switch on defense, especially around the center position.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Al Horford is currently weighing all his options for his future in the National Basketball Association.

Right now, the veteran is picking him playing with the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, and retirement. Currently, the Warriors are the favored team to land Horford.

“I’m told he is reviewing multiple options including the Warriors, the Lakers, but also retirement,” said Shams Charania on a Thursday afternoon Sports Center appearance. “He is 39 years old. He just finished season 18. I’m told it would be a surprise if he makes a final decision by this weekend. He certainly has earned the right to make a decision at his own time.

“I will say though the Warriors are hopeful of where they stand in all this if Al Horford decides to play again.”

The 39-year-old has been described as a solid fit for Golden State, as he would boost their perimeter shooting and defense.

Last season, Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game.
