According to ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Ben Simmons is expected to sign with a team soon, as multiple organizations are joining the Simmons sweepstakes. It’s expected a deal will be signed within the next week.
Teams like the New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Boston Celtics have shown legit interest in signing the 29-year-old to a contract.
“I’m told he’s probably going to make a choice in the next week,” wrote ESPN’s Brian Windhorst on Threads. “Knicks, Suns and yes, Celtics have all been connected to him.”
Last season, Simmons appeared in 18 games for the Los Angeles Clippers. During that run, he averaged 2.9 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.
It’s unclear what type of contract he’ll get and/or will accept, but it will not be anywhere close to the $177 million rookie extension contract back in 2020 with the Philadelphia 76ers.
To play for the Clippers, Simmons signed a one-year, $1 million deal for the remainder of the season. He is no longer owed any big chunks of money per season.
