According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Portland Trail Blazers, the organization has hired Micah Nori as their next head coach. Nori has been the lead assistant coach for the Minnesota Timberwolves over the past five seasons.

Nori’s contract is a one-year deal, but has team options for the second and third year. The last time a team option was included in a coach’s contract was back in 2024 when the Detroit Pistons hired J.B. Bickerstaff. Bickerstaff had a fifth year team option in the deal.

Chauncey Billups federal arrest last October and former interim coach Tiago Splitter accepting the Chicago Bulls head coaching position, Portland was left finding an entirely new coach to run their program.

New York Knicks assistant coach Chris Jent and Boston Celtics assistant coach Tyler Lashbrook were the two other finalists the Blazers were considering to hire.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Washington Wizards and free agent point guard Trae Young have come to an agreement on a new contract worth $212 million over four years. The organization will pay him an average of $53 million a season.

The 27-year-old declined his $49 million player option to become a free agent and sign an entirely new contract. This new contract saw the amount given to him was the most he was eligible to sign in free agency with a different organization.

Originally, Young was rumored to get $40 million annually over three seasons. However, obviously, he has signed for more money in the long run and secured an extra season. If a deal wasn’t reached before the start of free agency (June 30th), he was set to take potential meetings with other teams regarding contracts.

Washington will add to their core with the first overall pick in the upcoming NBA draft where they are expected to select AJ Dybantsa.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, a three-team trade featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets, and Chicago Bulls has taken place to revolve around Nic Claxton and Julius Randle.

The Timberwolves are trading Julius Randle and the 28th pick to the Nets for the 33rd pick, as the Bulls are receiving Nic Claxton from the Nets. An hour later, reports came out that Chicago is trading Mo Gueye to Minnesota.

Minnesota’s organization did re-sign Randle during the 2025 offseason on a three-year, $100 million contract as they found retaining him over Nickeil Alexander-Walker was the bigger priority. With them unloading his contract, this created the path to extending Ayo Dosunmu (who signed a five-year, $112 million extension). The Wolves also created a $33.3 million trade exception as part of the trade.

Naz Reid will be inserted into starting lineup as their power forward. Jaden McDaniels will continue his rising role as a co-star for Anthony Edwards on offense.
