According to multiple reports, confirmed by the Memphis Grizzlies, 29-year-old veteran forward Brandon Clarke has passed away Tuesday morning.
While a cause of death has not been officially determined, it’s suspected he died from a drug overdose. LAPD sources confirmed to ABC News that the talented player was found dead on Monday in a home located in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten,” said the Grizzlies in a statement. “We express our deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
“We are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke,” said Adam Silver. “As one of the longest-tenured members of the Grizzlies, Brandon was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit. Our thoughts and sympathies are with Brandon’s family, friends and the Grizzlies organization.”
In his seven years in the league, Clarke averaged 10.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in 309 career games. He spent his entire career with Memphis.
