According to ESPN, the Golden State Warriors may have legit interest in signing Milwaukee Bucks’ Brook Lopez. The 37-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, as he has concluded his two-year, $48 million contract.
General manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. and the Warriors have been looking for a center who can shoot the ball almost anywhere on the court; while they’ve always wanted that ideal center, it ramped up during the trade deadline surrounding names like Nikola Vucevic from the Chicago Bulls.
Last season, Lopez shot 37% from deep. Beyond his shooting and defensive abilities, the Warriors are hoping he can bring better frontcourt spacing for Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler. Golden State currently has no plans of moving off of either individual.
Despite the veteran giving the last seven years of his career to the Bucks, its rumored Milwaukee may cut ties to get younger and go in a different direction that more benefits them. This has been picking up steam since the Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors, Damian Lillard news, and overhaul rumors.
If the Warriors were to add the 37-year-old and have more veterans than younger talent, then the Warriors would have one of the more older rosters in the NBA. Stephen Curry is 37 years old, Green is 35 years old, Buddy Hield is 32 years old, and Butler is 35 years old.
