Cam Thomas Says He Wants To Re-Sign With The Nets

Many people around the league, including fans, did not know how much longer Cam Thomas wanted to play for the team that drafted him. Well, no need to speculate and guess, as he has publicly assured Brooklyn fans that he wants to re-sign with the Nets.

In a recent interview with his hometown news station in Chesapeake, Virginia, a topic that came up was his future in the NBA and where he wants to play come next regular season.

“I definitely, definitely want to be back in Brooklyn. It’s definitely home for me. Being drafted there you definitely build bonds with a lot of people there. So, I definitely love it there,” Thomas said. “But at the same time, you have to do what’s best for you in the business aspects. So, I have to play that by ear, but I definitely want to be back for sure. I definitely love Brooklyn.”

This offseason, the 23-year-old is a restricted free agent. The Nets have significantly more cap space than majority of the league, so it will be easier to not allow teams to match their offer on Thomas.

The breakout guard averaged 24.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game last season. This is back-to-back seasons of Thomas averaging twenty-plus points per game.

Cam Thomas Most Likely Out Remainder Of Season

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Brooklyn Nets will most likely be without their up-and-coming star player Cam Thomas for the remainder of the season.

Thomas suffered a left hamstring strain in Thursday’s loss to the Chicago Bulls. Due to injuries this season, the 23-year-old has only managed to play in 25 games this season.

He will enter restricted free agency this upcoming offseason; this current season, Thomas is making $4.0 million. Brooklyn can give him an $8.4 million qualifying offer to retain his restricted rights.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Brooklyn’s rising star Cam Thomas has suffered an untimely blow and will be out for an extensive amount of time.

The Nets will be without Thomas for three to four weeks due to a left strained hamstring. Currently, Brooklyn is 8-10 and have a real shot this season of remaining competitive.

A large part of that was due to the 23-year-old, who continues to put up career-high statistics and take a leap in basketball production and maturity.

He’s averaging 24.7 points off 46.1% from the field and 38.9% from beyond the arc. All three stats are career-highs.

This is his fourth season in the NBA, and with the Nets, as the former 27th overall pick in the 2021 draft has continuously improved since entering the league.

Their next game is Wednesday against the Phoenix Suns, as they are traveling to Phoenix for a non NBA Cup game.

Cam Thomas Not Comfortable With Newest Rotations

Coach Jacque Vaughn has moved Cam Thomas back to the bench after starting 20 of his 30 played games this season, which has caused some discomfort and bluntness from their young guard Cam Thomas.

Thomas is a person who isn’t afraid to speak his mind, and once again, when asked about the newest changes, he has expressed his mind. It’s clear he is not a big fan of the recent rotation changes.

“No… I’m just doing my job… But no, I don’t really have no comfortability coming off the bench or starting. Whatever he wants me to do that’s what imma do,” Thomas answered.

Being moved back to the bench has been viewed as a negative; it will be interesting to see if Vaughn moves him to a bigger role in the future or if this is it for a long time.
