De’Aaron Fox is day-to-day

The Sacramento Kings are 2-4 and will be going into battle without their top player for sometime. However, there is some good news for the franchise and for Fox.

While he is day-to-day with a bone bruise in his knee, there appears to be no structural damage. So that is huge news as that tones down the severity of the injury.

Fox will miss Wednesday’s game against the Heat and will be monitored on a daily basis, no other timeline than day-to-day.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the San Antonio Spurs and De’Aaron Fox have agreed to a four-year, $229 million contract extension.

The Spurs traded for Fox after he requested out of the Sacramento Kings during last season’s trade deadline. San Antonio was his preferred choice.

Nor a player or team option has been included to this deal.

Fox averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 6.8 assists in 17 games with the organization.

De'Aaron Fox Hopes To Sign New Contract With Spurs

According to multiple reports, ultimately confirmed by the man himself, De’Aaron Fox absolutely wants to sign an extension with the San Antonio Spurs to continue their partnership.

Fox is set to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason, as he has completed his five-year, $163 million contract that he signed back in 2021 with the Sacramento Kings. This was his designated rookie contract.

The 27-year-old is eligible to sign a four-year, $228.6 million extension. There have been speculated rumors of both sides wanting this not to be a one-and-done type relationship.

Fox has been recovering very well from surgery on his left pinkie finger.

De'Aaron Fox Told By Kings About Opening Trade Talks

According to Marc Stein and Jake Fischer, the Sacramento Kings were the ones who brought up opening trade talks surrounding De’Aaron Fox. Fox did not have any intentions of requesting a trade.

With the option of being traded on the table now, Fox would have preferred to handle this matter in the offseason. The main reason is that more teams would have been interested in the talented guard.

Right now, teams don’t have as many assets to trade for him as they would in the offseason.

Rumors were circulating that Fox opted not to extend with Sacramento because he was unhappy or wanted to see if they could succeed. Neither was the prevailing case, as he declined the contract to bet on himself to make an All-NBA team to become supermax eligible.

The supermax contract would have guaranteed a lasting relationship with the Kings, as that was the superstar’s intention. However, he is no longer interested in remaining with the team after they decided to move on from him.
