According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Chicago Bulls have signed former Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat player Norman Powell to a two-year deal worth $45 million.

Chicago will use majority of their remaining cap space on the 33-year-old guard.

In 58 games last season, Powell averaged 21.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.1 steals. During his run with the Heat, after being traded by the Clippers, he was a first-time All-Star.

Due to the season he had, immediately teams were willing to offer him contracts to come play for their organization. Miami was hoping to retain him, however, he decided to take his talents elsewhere.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, a three-team trade featuring the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets, and Chicago Bulls has taken place to revolve around Nic Claxton and Julius Randle.

The Timberwolves are trading Julius Randle and the 28th pick to the Nets for the 33rd pick, as the Bulls are receiving Nic Claxton from the Nets. An hour later, reports came out that Chicago is trading Mo Gueye to Minnesota.

Minnesota’s organization did re-sign Randle during the 2025 offseason on a three-year, $100 million contract as they found retaining him over Nickeil Alexander-Walker was the bigger priority. With them unloading his contract, this created the path to extending Ayo Dosunmu (who signed a five-year, $112 million extension). The Wolves also created a $33.3 million trade exception as part of the trade.

Naz Reid will be inserted into starting lineup as their power forward. Jaden McDaniels will continue his rising role as a co-star for Anthony Edwards on offense.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Chicago Bulls, Billy Donovan has made the decision Tuesday morning to step down as the organization’s head coach after six seasons with them.

Despite given the opportunity to stay by ownership, Donovan decided it was best for him to leave and allow the team to get a fresh start across the board. Recently, on April 6th, the Bulls fired executive vice president of basketball operations Arturas Karnisovas and general manager Marc Eversley.

Donovan wants to continue his coaching career in the NBA, as he is being seen as a top candidate for this upcoming offseason’s coaching hiring cycle.

During his tenure with the organization, the 60-year-old had a record of 226-256. Fans saw Donovan lead his team to the postseason (2021-22) once before getting bounced in the first round. Chicago has been in a state of rebuilding for seasons during his run as coach.
