Desmond Bane Undergoes Surgery

After suffering the injury on November 11th and missing some time before returning on December 23rd, Desmond Bane has officially undergone successful toe surgery.

Bane suffered a fracture of the medial sesamoid bone in his right big toe. He’s expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2023-24 season.

Desmond Bane averaged 21.5 points (47.9% FG), 5.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.0 steals in 58 games.

After missing 17-games, due to a sprained right big toe injury, Bane is upgraded to questionable and has a significant chance to play either tonight against the Suns or against the Warriors on Christmas Day.

To say the least, this would be huge for the Grizzlies. Desmond Bane was off to a terrific start to the season before injuring himself against the Timberwolves on November 11th. He pretty much missed over a month’s worth of action.

He’s averaging 24.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. So, easily, the Grizzlies will be better with him than without him. The combination of Morant, Bane, and Brooks is very good – amongst all the other key players Memphis has.

With him being upgraded to questionable and with all the chatter bubbling around his status, expect to play tonight or on Christmas Day.

Desmond Bane getting interest from the Suns?

Desmond Bane getting interest from the Suns?

Desmond Bane getting interest from the Suns? Draft prospect, Desmond Bane, says he is getting a lot of interest from the Suns. Because he has met with 26 teams, but the Suns showed a lot of interest. For reference, he is one of the best shooters in this year’s Draft Class and that could be building up the hype for the Suns to take him.

“I had a long conversation with James Jones,” Bane said of the Phoenix Suns GM in a recent call with media. “He’s one of those guys that was really high IQ. Knew his role on the team. He could shoot the ball. Brings a lot of similar qualities I bring to a team.”

What’s with James Jones obsession with number 22?

James Jones, who is the general manager of the Suns, loves older players who are 22 years old. He likes those kind of players because they know their role, they have a better fit for what he is trying to see in a player.

Take Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson, for an instance. They were both in the range of 22-23 years old when they were drafted. He took those kinds of players because of the way they presented themselves on the court. Knowing their role, fitting comfortably with their new role, and shooting great effort on the court. Guess where they are now? They are in the Sun’s young player core, who made the 8-0 run in the NBA Bubble this year. Plus, they are looking to be in that core heading into next season, hoping to make the playoffs again.

This is what James Jones has to say about his interest in older talent and what he is looking for in the 2020 NBA Draft (player wise):

“Our focus on rebounding, offensive rebounding, moving the ball, sharing the ball, being a low turnover team,” James Jones said of what he liked about the Suns in the Bubble, where they went 8-0. “All those things require a guys that can think on their feet. It takes a level of basketball IQ and maturity.”

This is what he has to say about his interest in older prospects:

“Always looking for experience,” Jones said. “We’re always looking for capacity. I don’t go based on age. My experience that the older players are the more seasoned veteran players tend to posses a greater capacity from day one to contribute to your team.”

Would this be a smart move for the Suns?

To me, this would be a great pickup for the Suns. You already have James Jones convinced, Desmond Bane has already shown what he could do at TCU. He would fit in perfectly with Booker, Rubio, Oubre, and Ayton. Even if he took a rotational, bench player role he would make that work. Because he will be able to space the court, play inside when driving, take good shots on the outside and on the sides. To me, give him a few years and he will be a lethal weapon for the Suns.

People have already said that he has veteran skills, that his skills are progressing amazingly and people also say this would be a steal for the Suns. It just all depends on what the Suns want to look for.
