Domantas Sabonis (Ankle) Is Out At Least 10 Days

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Sacramento Kings, prized big-man Domantas Sabonis will be out at least ten days due to a right ankle sprain.

The 28-year-old suffered the injury during the Memphis Grizzlies game, where fans only saw him playing 12 minutes before being out the remainder of the game.

He first went to the locker room with a laceration-related injury, but came back. However, the second time he went to the locker room, it was for his ankle and never returned.

Sabonis has missed some time this season with a previous hamstring injury, which saw Sacramento go 3-6 in his absence.

The Kings take on the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday night. Sacramento currently holds the ninth seed in the Western Conference.

This season, Sabonis averages 19.2 points and 13.9 rebounds in 58 appearances.

Since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976-77, Domantas Sabonis is the only player in history to have 54 consecutive double-doubles—an incredible feat considering how underrated he is.

Sabonis officially made history in Monday’s third quarter with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Even more impressively, the 27-year-old leads the league in double-doubles, triple-doubles, and rebounds per game this season.

Sacramento’s center averages 19.8 points, 13.7 rebounds, and 8.3 assists in 71 games. He has the opportunity to be up there with Wilt Chamberlain (1967-68) as the only player to average 20/13/8 for an entire season.

Domantas Sabonis Signs Extension With Kings

The Sacramento Kings value Domantas Sabonis heavily and it was seen Saturday when they used a huge chunk of their cap space to lock him up.

They value him as a key member of Sacramento, one of the main contributors to them breaking the 17-year playoff drought, which is why they wanted to secure him long-term.

Both Sabonis and Sacramento have agreed to renegotiating and extending his contract. The extension will allow a brand new four years, $195 million to be added to his existing deal.

His new contract is set at five years, worth $217 million. He was on an expiring contract heading into the summer, the team have now taken care of him.

He averaged 19.1 points, 12.3 rebounds (league leader), and 7.3 assists per game last season.
