Fred VanVleet could be apart of either the Suns or the Magic

VanVleet has turned down a contract extension from the Raptors last offseason and it appears that if he does hit the market to field his options, two teams will be the front suitors to go and potentially sign him.

The Magic are looking for an upgrade at the guard position, mainly point guard, as they haven’t had that one player come in and be impactful to their liking. Same goes for the Suns, how so? Chris Paul is getting older, probably done after this season (or will be a backup next season, if returns), and Cameron Payne will always be a backup – if comparing him to the likes of VanVleet.

Orlando is expected to have more than $30 million dollars in cap space this offseason, while Phoenix would likely have to work a sign-and-trade or a deal where VanVleet opts in and is traded.

Ultimately, it would be a little more work for Phoenix; however, they could go all-in especially for a player that can be as impactful in that role – this season has proven how detrimental it is to have a solidly consistent point guard.

Whether you are looking at this from the perspective of the Suns or Magic, one thing can be agreed upon and that is Fred VanVleet would be a game-changer for both of these teams.

While we should keep all possibilities open, remember that VanVleet will always be loyal to the team that gave him a chance and extended him after proving himself. Toronto, Phoenix, and Orlando will be in the running (and the front runners may I say) in the summer to acquire the talented guard.

VanVleet has agreed on a three-year, $130 million deal with the Houston Rockets.

Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Fred VanVleet will most likely not be ending up with Philadelphia. The team is reportedly not expected to pursue the free-agent guard.

It doesn’t matter the decision James Harden makes, the 76ers aren’t interested. Despite the hiring of VanVleet’s old head coach Nick Nurse, there is belief there won’t be a reunion.

VanVleet is an unrestricted free agent, which means he can sign anywhere he likes. The Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers have shown interest in signing the guard.
