Gordon Hayward opts out of his contract! Hayward has decided to opt out out of his remaining years on his contract; this next season he was set to make $34 million dollars, but he wanted out of Boston.
The main reason why Hayward wanted to leave is that injuries plagued his career there, plus the wing position is getting crowded. They have Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.
Plus, his scoring averages dropped off considerably. He was scoring 21 points per game with the Jazz, but now he is scoring 11 points per game.
The Celtics extended the deadline for his decision to opt-in or out; this extended to a few days. The Celtics wanted to see if they could get any sign-and-trades; this was before the NBA Draft when trade rumors surfaced but that never happened.
Now, with him opted out and everything, the Knicks and Hawks are both interested in the 30-year-old veteran. No doubt they are hoping he can have a resurgence of his old self from Utah, which he had when he was healthy prior to the NBA Bubble.
