Grizzlies To Explore Value Of Their 9th Pick

The Houston Rockets aren’t the only team exploring the value of their draft pick, as the Memphis Grizzlies will be asking teams what they’ll be willing to give up for the ninth overall pick.

In a weaker in years draft class, Memphis would rather get a veteran than another young player who would need to develop.

According to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, general manager Zach Kleiman will consider trading the pick for a veteran player who can contribute nicely to their roster. While he wants to trade the pick, he “will look at everything.”

According to multiple reports, the Memphis Grizzlies will not have to see Brandon Clarke undergo surgery for his existing knee injury.

Memphis announced on Monday that Clarke received an injection in his knee to be able to avoid surgery, which is always the second option.

Despite suffering a high-grade PCL sprain on March 19th against the Portland Trail Blazers, the team expects him to be ready for next season.

In 64 games this season, the 28-year-old averaged 8.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 18.9 minutes per game.

Taylor Jenkins Was Expected To Be Fired In The Offseason

According to multiple reports, there was a growing feeling around the league that Taylor Jenkins was going to be fired in the offseason.

The timing was very surprising, but the firing was not for many people associated with the NBA. In fact, it was almost expected he wouldn’t return for the next season.

Why the feeling was growing so much was due to Memphis overhauling his coaching staff and completely cutting him out for the future.

“The anticipation was they’d get bounced in the first round and he’d be fired,” said Tim MacMahon on Monday’s Hoop Collective Podcast. “That’s honestly been the anticipation since last summer. All season long. Like the odds of Taylor Jenkins coming back next year were very slim. But to be fired with nine games left in the season… a playoff team. Yeah, the timing was shocking.”

Jenkins was their head coach for six seasons before getting canned, he was hired back in 2019 to replace current Detroit Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff before they selected Ja Morant with the second overall pick.
