ICYMI: Bill Russell Passes Away Peacefully
The tragic news came yesterday morning that Bill Russell had peacefully passed away. Official statements were released from his family as the 11-time NBA Champion died at the age of 88.
Bill Russell was the ultimate champion as everything he touched turned into gold. He won five MVPs (among other awards), won eleven championships, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame twice. He got inducted as a player and as a head coach.
In 2009, the league renamed the NBA Finals MVP the “Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award.”
He was an amazing person on and off the court as his activism will be forever cherished and never forgotten. The Civil Rights Activist made history throughout the game of basketball as the first-ever black head coach. His accomplishments, and what he should be recognized for, as a player and as an activist should always be remembered.
While we do not know how he died; the most important part is that he died peacefully and next to his wife, Jeannine.
