Isaiah Stewart Arrested After Assaulting Drew Eubanks
Was anybody expecting to see headlines of an altercation before the game or that a player was being arrested for his actions? Well, Wednesday night was an interesting night for the Pistons and Suns.
Shams Charania reported an altercation broke loose at the Suns’ arena way before the game was set for tip-off; Isaiah Stewart and Drew Eubanks were the two players involved. Context: Banks played in their win against Detroit while Stewart continued to rehab from his ankle injury.
According to authorities, after Eubanks was attacked, the police arrested Stewart and gave him a citation. It is important to note he is no longer in police custody; he has been released. An investigation remains open.
It was reported Eubanks suffered a minor injury during the assault. However, it did not prohibit him from playing with Phoenix for 18 minutes.
The two team’s statements:
“The attack on Drew Eubanks was unprovoked, and acts of violence such as this are unacceptable,” the Suns said in a statement. “We unequivocally support Drew, and will continue to work with local law enforcement and the NBA.”
The Pistons said they were aware of the incident. “We are in the process of gathering information about what happened and what provoked it, and responding to the NBA and local authorities,” the team said.
Monty Williams believed the Suns were in the wrong for posting a statement:
“The thing is to get all of the information. The NBA will do an investigation,” Williams said after the Suns beat the Pistons 116-100. “For me to come here and make a statement would be a bit irresponsible. I know the Suns said it was unprovoked; I think that is irresponsible for sure. You really don’t know.”
“That did not need to happen. There is a time for the information to be gathered, and then you can make a statement.”
Whether you agree with any of this or not, from Monty to the actions between the two men, this is an open investigation. This will involve teams, law enforcement, and the association.
Again, the fight happened around 4:45 PM, where investigators said an argument broke out; both players were chest-to-chest before Stewart sucker-punched him. That is when security intervened, broke the players up, and Eubanks said he was fine to play tonight.
