According to ESPN’s Shams Charania and Brian Windhorst, Jimmy Butler’s time in Miami is officially up, as the man himself has asked to be traded.
The 35-year-old has no plans to list preferred teams he wants to play on; why? Because Butler doesn’t care where he plays as long as he is far away from the Miami Heat.
Despite saying he’s lost his “joy” for basketball due to Pat Riley and the Heat, Butler will remain committed to the team until he is dealt. This means partaking in all team activities and whatever he is asked to do.
“I want to see me getting my joy back playing basketball. Wherever that may be, we’ll find out here pretty soon,” Butler said. “I’m happy here off the court but I want to be back to somewhat dominant, I want to hoop and I want to help this team win and right now I’m not doing it.”
During Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers, Butler looked dejected and miserable on the bench. Plus, in the 27 minutes he played, he only attempted six shots, which got him nine points.
The NBA Trade Deadline is February 6th. Teams such as the Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, and Dallas Mavericks have shown interest in trading for the talented veteran.
