According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, confirmed by the Sacramento Kings, Keegan Murray has suffered a mild calf strain. An MRI was used for this diagnosis.

He will be re-evaluated in one week.

The 25-year-old has only appeared in 15 games this season, as he missed the first 15 games due to rehabbing from thumb surgery that took place in the preseason.

For Murray, he is usually a very healthy player. The least amount of games he has played in a season was 76 games (2024-25 season).

This season, he is averaging 14.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.

According to the Sacramento Kings, they will be without Keegan Murray for at least the next four-to-six weeks due to undergoing thumb surgery.

An MRI revealed that the 25-year-old has suffered a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb. This injury occurred during the team’s preseason game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday.

Him getting injured is a rare sight to see, as he’s only missed 13 total games of his young NBA career. Murray has started in 231 career games.

With Sacramento no longer having their starting power forward, and them not having depth at that position, head coach Doug Christie will need to come up with an alternative plan until Murray returns.

Kings Pick Up Keegan Murray's 2025-26 Option

According to multiple reports, the Sacramento Kings have made the decision to pick up Keegan Murray’s 2025-26 rookie scale team option.

That’ll be the 24-year-old’s fourth season in the league, and making $11.1 million on that option.

Murray can sign a rookie scale contract next offseason. However, if no agreement is reached, he will be a restricted free agent in 2026.

Last season, Murray averaged 15.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in 77 games.

Keegan Murray cleared to make NBA debut today

Fantastic news for the Kings as they will be getting back their young rookie to start the NBA season, after only missing opening night. He has been cleared to play against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday night at 7:00 PM.

Murray was placed in health and safety protocols on October 18th, which made him miss opening night, now he is back and ready to debut for the regular season.
