While the NBA world is watching in real-time the implosion of Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, there are two teams, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, who are legitimately interested in trading for the franchise superstar.
The Sacramento Kings and Miami Heat are reportedly interested in him and would make him the focal point of their organization. What both franchises have in common is a definite need at the point guard position.
However, like their interest in the 26-year-old, both organizations did not have interest in trading for former Atlanta Hawk player Trae Young (now on the Washington Wizards). Despite Young being on a value decline, both organizations opted to wait for the Morant sweepstakes.
For Memphis, they are hoping to get a pretty fruitful return for the former second overall pick. That would consist of future draft picks and young prospects. However, per the reporting of ESPN, Morant’s current value is not perceived to be high by NBA personnel.
While it remains to be seen how accurate the report is, one thing for sure is that Morant has bought a house in Miami. It was purchased through a trust he manages about three weeks ago. It is roughly four miles away from the arena the Heat play in. Plus, his representatives find Miami to be very “attractive.” This was reported by Miami New Times’ Ryan Yousefi.
Contractually speaking, for any team that is interested in acquiring the young player, Morant has two seasons left on his current deal with $42.17 million in 2026-27 and $44.89 million in 2027-28.
This season, Morant is averaging 19.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.
