Players Questioned Jacque Vaughn’s In-Game Decisions
The ousting of head coach Jacque Vaughn came after their 50-point loss before the break, and some within the organization were concerned about his methods. For the players, they questioned his decision-making in games.
Players like Mikal Bridges voiced their frustrations and lack confidence in Vaughn’s coaching abilities. This did lead to management worrying about big talents not wanting to come to Brooklyn because of the former coach.
In a non-confrontational way, per Ian Begley, Spencer Dinwiddie spoke with Vaughn about having a defined hierarchy on offense. It appears there was no offensive leader or sense of who is supposed to be the “guy” on the team.
It was also reported Vaughn wanted to play the team through Ben Simmons, which got people confused.
In all of this reporting, Kevin Ollie was promoted to interim head coach.
This is the second time he has been fired in his coaching career. The first time was with the Orlando Magic mid-way through the 2014-15 season.
