While many were pointing the finger at owner Vivek Ranadive for firing head coach Mike Brown, it turns out that he didn’t make the call.

According to multiple reports, General Manager Monte McNair decided to fire the man who broke their 17-year playoff drought.

With the firing of Brown, Sacramento has now had eight head coaches in 12 years.

“This was a difficult decision and I want to thank Mike for his many contributions to the organization,” McNair said in a late Friday news release.

McNair is giving the interim coaching job to Doug Christie and will not conduct an in-season coaching search. By doing this, McNair allows the promoted assistant to pitch his case on why he deserves the job permanently.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Sacramento Kings have made the decision to fire head coach Mike Brown. He was under contract through the 2026-27 season.

Brown was in his third season with Sacramento, as he was the head coach to win Coach of the Year in his first season with the team when he led them to their first playoff series in 17 years.

Currently, Sacramento is on a five-game losing streak. Last game, they blew a 4th-quarter 14-point lead to the Detroit Pistons. This losing streak has made them fall to 13-18 on the season.

In each season with the Kings, the 54-year-old had a winning season. He was 48-34 in his first season and 46-36 in his second.

Many speculate that this is a sign that the team will blow it up and start from scratch; De’Aaron Fox’s name has been in trade rumors and reports, which could signal that his time is ending.

Brown was fired minutes before their team plane departed for Los Angeles. He ran practice and talked to the media, but beyond that point, management talked to him and decided to fire their promising head coach.

Doug Christie will become Sacramento’s interim head coach until they find their permanent guy. Christie has been with the team since 2021-22 as an assistant.

According to Marc Stein, Nassir Little’s performance in the G League Showcase has put him on the radar of several teams.

Not only is Little on their radar, but there’s a large expectation of him signing with a franchise in the coming future.

In 16 G League games with Sioux Falls, the 24-year-old is averaging 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in 33.8 minutes. 

He’s considered to be one of the better wing defenders in the G League right now, which one veteran scout said, “He’s one of the better game-ready call-up guys.”

Little has spent five years in the NBA; four years with the Portland Trail Blazers and a year with the Phoenix Suns.

Per multiple reports, he has turned down overseas opportunities to remain in the G League to earn an NBA roster spot.
