According to Chris Haynes, who made an appearance on the Dan Patrick Show, has confirmed to the public that Trae Young has no intentions of leaving the Atlanta Hawks in the offseason.
In fact, with him having two years left on his contract, Young plans on finishing out his contract. Signing an extension was not talked about, but there’s no desire of him wanting to leave.
“(Young) said he’s in a good spot,” Haynes said. “He said he knew there was going to be speculation once the Hawks went to a younger core. Had the number one pick, he knew there was going to be speculation about his future. He said he bought in, he took the number one pick. Brought him to his hometown in Oklahoma to show him around and spend some time with him right after he was drafted to get him engaged. So, he’s somebody who, again, just told me a week, a week-and-a-half ago, that he’s down with the process. He wants to see this Atlanta Hawks squad turn the corner and he wants to be a pivotal part in that.”
This summer, Young does have an extension waiting for him. If he signs the either four or five year contract extension, it would put him in supermax money range.
The 26-year-old has wrapped up his seventh season with Atlanta. His career averages have been beyond solid, with 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 9.8 assists, and 1.0 steals. Since 2022-23, he has been averaging a double-double.
Since his second season in the league, Young has been averaging more than nine assists a game. To say he is a prime-time playmaker is an understatement. He has also been averaging more than 24 points a game since his second season.
Atlanta was eliminated from playoff contention after their 123-114 overtime loss to the Miami Heat. The Hawks ended as the ninth seed in the Eastern Conference.
