Udonis Haslem will be resigning with the Heat! The 40-year-old veteran will be resigning with the Miami Heat for his 18th season in the NBA. Even though, after this season, he will be going into his 19th season. He still looks to be rocking it afterward, looking to play another few seasons.
The main reason why he wants to do this is that he does not play the season regularly; meaning he has a huge impact on a team by his leadership and his locker room skills. Due to that Heat’s head coach Erik Spoelstra wanted him back. Because his presence and the way he carries himself is incredible, that is the type of leadership and posture Erik Spoelstra wants.
Here’s what Erik Spoelstra has to say about Haslem:
“He’s just an incredible rock of stability and leadership and mentorship,” Spoelstra said during the NBA Finals last month. “That’s at all levels. It’s not just to our young players. It’s to our veteran players. And he provides just great guidance and mentorship to this head coach as well. I love him.”
Even after this season, will Haslem return for another?
“Spo told me don’t answer that question,” Haslem said Friday. “Spo said we’ll continue to talk about it.”
Right now Haslem is their all-time leader in rebounds, ranks second behind Wade in minutes and games played, and is number seven on their all-time scoring list. Plus, one more game with the Heat will make him the oldest player in their franchise to play that many games.
The projecting contract for him will be an one year worth $2.5 million dollars.
