According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Zach LaVine is expected to make the decision to accept and opt into his $48.9 million player option for the upcoming season with the Sacramento Kings.
The 31-year-old has no intentions of leaving all that money on the table to go test his luck in free agency; it appears he wants to take the guaranteed money before seeing how the open market assesses his worth monetarily.
“They are not leaving that money on the table, So, he’s not opting out”, Amick said about LaVine and his representation during a recent appearance on SacTown Sports.
The only scenario in which LaVine would not accept his player option is if he were to be traded. Reportedly, Sacramento has given the veteran guard permission to potential sign-and-trade options. In that case, he would opt out, sign for a lower amount and would be traded.
While the Kings are willing to help LaVine out, no options have presented themselves as of Friday.
