Atlanta Dream trades for the first overall pick of this year’s WNBA Draft

This the second year in a row that the first overall pick has been traded, but different participants. Formerly owning the draft pick was the Washington Mystics, now it is owned by the Atlanta Dream.

The trade consists of Atlanta receiving the first overall pick of this year’s draft in exchange for this year’s third overall pick, second round pick (no. 14), and giving them the right to swap with the Los Angeles Sparks’ 2023 first-round selection.

The last time the Dream had the first overall pick was back in 2009; and, fun fact, was the only time the Dream did have the first selection of the draft.

Atlanta is hoping for some big things to come out of this draft as they are going all-in to turn around their miserable couple of seasons. Missing 4-out-of-5 past times and going 8-24. Good news, they have been hiring and firing to reassemble this franchise.
