Zion has the opportunity to LOSE money

Pelicans player Zion Williamson will have the chance to lose money due to weight penalties. Despite the quick signing and new money, the Pelicans have a backup plan in case all goes to heck in a handbasket.

Williamson signed a huge contract but has some provisions, which was bound to happen. If he goes over 295 pounds, combining weight and body fat, then he will begin to lose some of his guaranteed money. He will be doing periodic weigh-ins throughout the entirety of his new deal.

The 22-year-old will be held accountable for his weight as that has been a growing concern for the organization since his recent injuries and time away from the team. He has gone over 310 pounds recently, but the Pelicans are now hopeful he can slim back down. That should be a guarantee if he doesn’t want to lose out on any money.

According to the team, the New Orlean Pelicans are bracing for the reality of Zion Williamson being out for more than his scheduled timeline.

Originally, the 24-year-old was set to return in four to six weeks, however, multiple treatments have not allowed him to properly recover. This has caused him to be no where near playing shape.

Williamson has been out since November 6th, which has caused him to play in only six of the seventeen available games.

Zion appeared in a career-high 70 games last season. He’s only played in 190 career games since entering the league in 2019.

Joel Embiid To Miss Multiple Games With Knee Swelling

According to the Philadelphia 76ers, Joel Embiid has suffered swelling in his left knee and will require time off to heal.

Right now, Embiid is set to miss at least two games, as the 30-year-old was ruled out for Friday’s game and has been ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

Thirty minutes before tip off, Embiid was ruled out for the game on Friday against the Brooklyn Nets. The expectation was for him to test his knee out, but he never made it onto the court.

Embiid has only played in four of the fifteen possible games this season.
