Jrue Holiday Signs $135 Million Extension

With the regular season ending very soon, the Boston Celtics aren’t done making splashes and securing their future’s success. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Boston has secured Jrue Holiday for years to come.

The 33-year-old has signed a four-year, $135 million extension with his new team. This comes after being dealt in a blockbuster trade from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Portland Trail Blazers to finally landing with Brad Steven’s team.

He will be declining his player option to sign through the 2027-28 season, which also helps the Celtics save money and put it towards the cap space for next year for the expensive guys like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, and others.

Jrue Holiday Traded To The Celtics

The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Jrue Holiday to the Boston Celtics for a solid package in return. This was expected when considering who Holiday is and what he offers a team as an experienced guard.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Portland is expected to be keeping Robert Williams – most likely pairing him with Deandre Ayton (Damian Lillard trade) – but trading away Malcolm Brogdon.

The main reason behind that decision is due to their commitment to their younger, already existing core of guards.

• Blazers: Robert Williams, Malcolm Brogdon, 2024 first-rounder, 2029 first-rounder
• Celtics: Jrue Holiday

Boston’s potentially new starting lineup will be Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum, and Kristaps Porzingis.

While the Damian Lillard trade didn’t happen for Miami, Pat Riley and the front office could be looking to trade for Jrue Holiday – the newest member of the Portland Trail Blazers.

Even though Holiday is a guard, and the Blazers are trying to strengthen their guard play, he is a little bit too old. Scoot Henderson, Anfernee Simons, and Shaedon Sharpe are all three players the Blazers want to get going and develop.

With that said, Holiday is back up to be sold to the highest-biding team for a solid veteran. Teams such as the Philadelphia 76ers, Miami Heat, and Boston Celtics have been connected to the 33-year-old.

It should be noted that Holiday can become a free agent in 2024, however, it is expected he is to sign a new extension with whatever team trades for him.
