It doesn’t matter if it’s a Monday, Wednesday, or even a Sunday; Caitlin Clark is always balling out and breaking records. It was no different against the Dallas Wings.
Despite the Indiana Fever losing 101-93 in an away game, Clark did the unthinkable and recorded a historic 19 assists. Not only is that a career-high for the 22-year-old, but she is now the record holder for the WNBA’s single-game assists.
That record included veterans, but what about rookies? She passed that record after notching her 17th assist, officially passing Tina Penicheiro when she set it back in 1998.
Plus, as she set more records, Clark is the Fever’s single-season franchise assist record holder with 202. Friendly reminder that she’s only played in 26 games.
Alyssa Thomas, who set the record last season, has it standing at 316 assists. Indiana has 14 games left to play after their All-Star break, but will it be enough time for Clark to match it or completely shatter the record? Only time will tell.
What this outstanding rookie is doing and has done is beyond incredible. Many have her as the leading favorite to win this year’s Rookie of the Year.
