According to multiple reports, the Memphis Grizzlies are expected to have a bigger trade market for Ja Morant heading into this summer’s offseason.
This comes after Ja Morant informed teammates and former coaches that he is done playing for the Grizzlies and wants to move to a different organization. While his value may not increase, more teams will be interested in acquiring his services.
“There will be teams that will feel like they didn’t get what they wanted in the draft or free agency, and that’s when something could happen for Ja,” a Western Conference executive told ESPN.
This saga between the Grizzlies and Morant may not officially conclude until the draft and free agency is over. His name will be a hot topic once the playoffs end.
While general manager Zach Kleiman didn’t go into details concerning the 26-year-old’s future with the organization, he did say that everyone was on the same page understanding-wise.
“Ja’s been a pro,” Kleiman said. “I think everyone is on the same page as much as we can be. I won’t speculate on any potential transactions.”
Morant has been on and off the market since his one game suspension following an arugment he had with his head coach Tuomas Iisalo. Even with both sides showing professionalism, it has been clear around the league that a departure is increasingly most likely to happen.
