While the Hornets are fortunate to have their star player avoiding a serious injury, he will be missing some time which is not ideal. Per the MRI, the Hornets have revealed LaMelo Ball to be out for 1-2 weeks with a Grade 2 left ankle sprain.
If the injury only keeps him out for a week, then Ball will most likely miss four games of the season. If he misses another week (to bring it to two weeks out), then Ball will most likely miss eight games of the opening season.
Per the team, Ball’s return to full basketball activities will be determined by how he responds to rehab and treatment. The 1-2 weeks is a real timeline, but things are subject to change – for the better or for the worst.
Per Hornet’s head coach Steve Clifford, Mason Plumlee (foot) is also dealing with an injury. No timetable given for his return, ruled out for Wednesday’s preseason game against the 76ers. Also, per Clifford, Terry Rozier will start in place of LaMelo Ball if he’s not a go for opening night.
His road to recovery begins now and there is a slight possibility of him playing on October 19th, which is what everyone is holding their breath on.

I said some outcomes Ball and his team can face with this new injury; plus, I kind of predicted how long he was going to be out for. Check out the podcast episode here:
According to multiple reports, led by The Athletic’s Shams Charania and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Miles Bridges has re-signed with the Charlotte Hornets after opting not to be in a potential sign-and-trade.
The 26-year-old agreed to a three-year, $75 million contract to keep the core of LaMelo Ball, Brandon Miller, and Bridges together. This comes after Charlotte saw his potential when he exploded for multiple 40-point games last season.
He averaged 21.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season. He was statistically and visually one of Charlotte’s most productive players.
JJ Redick To Interview For Hornets Head Coaching Position
According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, J.J. Redick has been given an opportunity to become the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets. It would be his first head coaching gig ever.
The team is scheduling an interview with the 39-year-old to determine if he could be a possible coach/candidate.
Last offseason, the Toronto Raptors interviewed him for their coaching vacancy.
Steve Clifford Stepping Down As Head Coach Of The Hornets
According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Charlotte Hornets will begin their head coach search earlier than expected after it’s been learned Steve Clifford is done coaching the team.
While the organization was open to the idea of him returning as coach next season, Clifford cited he didn’t have the commitment to return as head coach.
Jeff Peterson and co-owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin will transition the 62-year-old to a front-office position.
After coaching the Orlando Magic for three seasons, Clifford returned to the Hornets in 2022.
