According to ESPN’s Tim MacMahon, at no point after Jason Kidd found out about the Luka Doncic trade did he try to stop the deal. It appeared he had no intentions of throwing himself in the middle to keep his franchise player in Dallas.

When the trade happened, Kidd publicly said he wasn’t involved in trading Doncic. Beyond that, he said Nico Harrison didn’t tell him until the eleventh hour.

“The trade was made and J-Kidd says he didn’t know about it until the eleventh hour, I’ll just say my understanding is he didn’t exactly toss himself in front of the oncoming train to try to prevent it from happening,” said Tim MacMahon on The Hoop Collective Podcast.

Since trading Doncic, Dallas finds themselves as a bottom-feeding team with a record of 38-42. Despite the injuries and numerous trades made, they found a way to claim the tenth seed in the Western Conference.

The Portland Trail Blazers and Phoenix Suns have been eliminated from playoff/Play-In contention.

According to ESPN, the Denver Nuggets have been mulling over the idea of firing both head coach Michael Malone and general manager Calvin Booth since the All-Star break.

Per multiple reports, the team was “miserable” and owner Josh Kroenke thought having a clean house would repair the morale and help bolster them in the locker room to translate into wins. However, the firings never happened due to Denver going on an eight-game win streak.

The feud between Malone and Booth turned into a “cold war.” This caused a very toxic environment for everyone within the organization.

“Everybody in the organization was miserable,” a team source said. “That’s what Josh felt. It’s a bad vibe. You can’t operate like that. He felt that if he removed those two people, everybody could just focus on doing their job. Change needed to happen.”

“There were certain trends that were very worrisome to me at certain points in time, but they would get masked by a few wins here and there,” Kroenke said during an in-house interview released Tuesday afternoon. “In the world of professional sports, where winning and losing is your currency, winning can mask a lot of things.”

Beyond the toxicity, the two’s mindset were completely different. Booth wanted to play the younger guys he drafted, while Malone wanted to play the veterans more. This tore apart a clear path of how they were going to maintain their championship-contending window.

Denver is 48-32, currently holding the 4th seed in the Western Conference, and hope the team’s morale boost can help them in the postseason.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the organization, the Denver Nuggets have made the stunning move to fire general manager Calvin Booth three games before the postseason begins.

Booth has been operating the Nuggets officially since 2022, this was the year fans saw Tim Connelly depart to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

For Booth, his relationship with the Nuggets began back in July of 2020, where he was named assistant general manager.

“I want to thank Calvin Booth for leading our front office for the past three years,” Kroenke said. “And most importantly for helping put the final pieces in place for the roster that delivered Denver and our fans their first NBA Championship. Calvin’s knowledge of the game, his passion for scouting, and his long history as a player and executive in the NBA helped lift our organization to new heights which we will continue moving forward. We are grateful to Calvin for his eight years with the Nuggets and know his place in Nuggets history as our first championship-winning GM will be honored for years to come.”

Per ESPN, entering this season, both Booth and head coach Michael Malone had growing tension and this “Cold War” type relationship between each other. They often weren’t seeing eye-to-eye, they disagreed heavily, and rarely spoke to each other.

Denver has decided to move off both of them before the postseason. The team was 47-32 heading into Tuesday’s decision.
