According to The Athletic’s Kelly Iko, the Houston Rockets are most likely going to decline Fred VanVleet’s team option worth $44.9 million. This is for the sore purpose of working on a new multi-year contract to secure his future with the organization.

Both sides have remained committed to each other and both publicly have stated they want to continue working together.

“Obviously, I put my heart and soul into this, and this is where I want to be,” VanVleet said. “It’s definitely a family situation. I’ve got a lot of love for our coaching staff, Rafael (Stone), the Fertitta family, what we set out to do when I had my free agent meeting two years ago, and we’re on that track. It was never a short-term vision. It was a long-term goal. We’re on track. We’re on schedule.”

This quote was from when he was asked how he sees his future shaping up in the league. Both Houston and VanVleet agreed to push back the team option deadline to June 29th.

It’s unclear what the Rockets would be willing to offer the 31-year-old this time around, as he is coming off freshly signing a three-year, $130 million contract with them back in 2023’s offseason.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Khris Middleton has made the decision to opt into his player option for next season. The Washington Wizards will have another year of the veteran forward.

The 33-year-old is set to make $33.3 million for the following season, as this will conclude his three-year deal worth $102 million. This deal was signed back in 2023 with the Milwaukee Bucks, this was two years before getting traded at the 2025 trade deadline.

Middleton will turn 34 in August, which is right around the corner.

Middleton averaged 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 14 appearances with Washington.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Indiana Pacers, franchise superstar Tyrese Haliburton did, in fact, suffer a torn right Achilles tendon during Sunday night’s Game 7 against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

In the final minutes of the first quarter, after starting off hot, Haliburton tore his Achilles and was in significant pain after falling to the ground. He needed carried to the back of the locker room, which was the last time fans around the NBA saw him.

The 25-year-old played through a calf injury on the same leg during games five, six, and seven. Throughout the Finals, Haliburton battled through ankle and calf injuries to be on the court for his team.

His calf injury, per Charania, required multiple weeks off to recover. He would have taken time off, if it wasn’t the postseason.

Haliburton is the third player this season/post-season to have suffered a torn Achilles. Damian Lillard and Jayson Tatum are the other two. It’s not expected these players return to the court until year 2027.

Indiana lost to OKC in seven games, as they lost Game 7 103-91. The Thunder are the NBA’s 2025 champions.
