Pelicans Have Ruled Out Multiple Players Ahead Of The Trade Deadline

According to Chris Haynes, the New Orleans Pelicans have made it clear to teams across the NBA that they have no intentions of becoming aggressive sellers at the deadline.

The list includes Zion Williamson, Trey Murphy, Herb Jones, Derik Queen, and Jeremiah Fears. Reportedly, New Orleans aren’t giving up on the Zion experiment, and they have no intentions of giving up any of their young assets.

With them publicly saying they aren’t trading players like Williamson, Murphy, or Jones, it’s unclear when they will signal the reset to build around rookies Queen and Fears. A large part of this season has been trying to understand their plans of making those two the next big pieces of their team.

Jones is not set to become a free agent until 2029, at the earliest. Williamson is locked in through the 2027-28 season. Murphy’s contract runs through the 2028-29 season.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Karl-Anthony Towns to this day is still upset the New York Knicks entertained the idea of trading him away to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo.

The 30-year-old seeing this unfold “led to hard feelings” and never really getting over it. This comes at a time where Towns has criticized, and openly expressed his frustrations, about his role within head coach Mike Brown’s offense multiple times throughout this season.

It’s unclear if the Knicks are going to make any moves at the deadline, but Towns’ name has been a recurring topic of discussion of being moved from New York. He has two years left on his contract, which sees him making $118 million in total.

This season, he is averaging 20.2 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Steven Adams (Ankle Surgery) Out For Remainder Of Season

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Houston Rockets, Steven Adams will be out for the rest of the season due to undergoing season-ending ankle surgery on his his left ankle.

Last week, Adams was ruled out with a Grade 3 ankle sprain. The injury happened during their matchup against the New Orleans Pelicans.

The 32-year-old getting injured leaves the Rockets weakened at their center position; another position they must try to fix during their quest to make a run for the NBA title this season. Center and point guard are two of the biggest holes for this organization.

This season, Adams averaged 5.8 points and 8.6 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per game. He was a big part of their bully ball identity, as his unmatched physicality is what gave him an edge over his opponents.

In June of last year, Houston signed Adams to a three-year, $39 million contract.

Jeremy Sochan Given Permission To Look For Potential Trades

According to Marc Stein, the San Antonio Spurs have given Jeremy Sochan permission to look for a new home, as the trade deadline is this upcoming February 5th.

It’s unclear what his market is shaping up to look like, but this has been a career-low for the 22-year-old.

In only 27 games this season, career-low 13.1 minutes per game, Sochan is averaging 4.2 points and 2.7 rebounds per game. Both those numbers are also career lows. On top of that, Sochan is shooting 25.7% from three.

Despite the Spurs being second in the Western Conference, having a 31-15 record, Sochan still wants out.
