During the Cleveland Cavaliers’ 133-107 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers, fans saw Darius Garland injure his foot during the third quarter and later be ruled out for the remainder of the game.

It has been labeled as a right foot injury, while the full extent of the injury has not been revealed, reports are saying he is “doubtful” for Friday’s game against the 76ers.

The ball got stripped away from Garland, and as he was down on the ground, he slowly got up and limped to the bench. Despite the not-great scenes during the game, after the game, Donovan Mitchell said the 25-year-old was “in good spirits.”

Head coach Kenny Atkinson also said Sam Merrill, who left in the first half due to an injured right hand, is doubtful for Friday’s game as well.

For Garland, he has also been dealing with turf toe in his left foot throughout the season.

Despite the reoccurring feet injuries, Garland is averaging 18.0 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game this season. He’s appeared in 26 games so far.

With 7:01 remaining in the first quarter, Jalen Brunson was seen limping to the locker room after apparently spraining his ankle.

While he was able to walk back to the locker room, the New York Knicks ruled him out for the remainder of the game. With him ruled out, New York lost to the Sacramento Kings 112-101.

“We didn’t respond. We didn’t respond at all,” said Knicks coach Mike Brown about his team’s response after Brunson left the game. 

Right now, nobody knows the severity of this injury. Previously, the 29-year-old has missed two games this season due to a sprained right ankle.

The Knicks did not have any updates on Brunson after the game. Reports were circulating that Brunson did not have a walking boot on or with crutches.

New York’s next game is this upcoming Friday against the Golden State Warriors; at this moment, it is unclear whether or not the franchise player will be available to suit up.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, confirmed by the Washington Wizards, the team’s fanbase will have to wait to see their newly acquired star play until after the NBA’s All-Star break.

Trae Young is still actively recovering from MCL and quad injuries on the same leg and will be re-evaluated in the middle of February.

Washington is reportedly taking their time with Young, showing extreme patience, due to wanting to help their younger players develop and keep tanking for higher draft odds. If Washington’s first-round pick goes inside the top eight selections in the draft lottery, they retain it and the Knicks receive two second-round picks instead. This is due to them owing New York the pick, but putting top-eight protections on said pick.

Given this backstory, and knowing Young is here to serve as their long-term franchise leader, they are in no rush to get the 27-year-old back out onto the court. As a side note, Young has a $49 million player option for the 2026-27 season.

Given the injuries he has faced this season, the prime point guard has only been able to play in ten games. In those ten games, Young has averaged 19.3 points and 8.9 assists in 28.0 minutes.
