According to the Dallas Mavericks, center Daniel Gafford has suffered a sprained ankle and will be out for the next two-to-three weeks.

He suffered the injury during the opening practice of training camp on Tuesday. Dallas’ regular season begins on October 22nd, where they take on the San Antonio Spurs.

Last season, fans saw the 27-year-old miss the final two months due to a Grade 3 sprain of the MCL.

In 57 games, Gafford averaged 12.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.4 assists.

According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks and P.J. Washington have been having positive talks where it is very “likely” for him to sign an extension with the organization.

The terms of the deal are four years worth a little under $90 million. Washington became eligible for this extension on Friday.

Since being traded in the middle of 2023-24 season to Dallas, the 27-year-old has emerged himself as one of the keystone players for the Mavericks. Washington has been seen as the glue guy and a solid fit for Jason Kidd’s scheme.

In his first full season with the team, Washington averaged 14.7 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.

His previous contract saw him making roughly $14.1 million a season, this deal would see him making about $22.5 million a season. A noticeable increase to his salary each year.

When he signs this deal, this will be the biggest contract of his six-year career.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Dallas Mavericks and Kyrie Irving have come together to agree on a new extension to keep the veteran guard in Dallas for the foreseeable future.

To make this deal work, Irving needed to decline his $43 million player option for next season. This new contract does not include an option.

The 33-year-old signed a three-year, $119 million extension. Many assume this will be one of the last contracts Irving will sign before he retires.

Before suffering his ACL tear, Charania reported that Irving was expected to make around $50-$60 million per season. Unfortunately, the injury has forced Irving into accepting less per year. He’s estimated to make $39.6 million per season.

By opting out and lowering his salary for the following season, this will allow the Mavericks to use their $5.7 million taxpayer midlevel exception.
