According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Golden State Warriors have traded Jonathan Kuminga to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis. This officially ends a very dragged out, up-and-down story/feud between Golden State and Kuminga.
In addition to the Hawks getting Kuminga, the Warriors threw Buddy Hield into the deal as well. Reportedly, after Golden State offered four first-round picks and got declined by the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, they pivoted their attention to the 30-year-old center.
Despite Porzingis’ injury history, especially during this season, and not playing since January 7th, the Warriors are optimistic they will get him back soon. They are looking to make a push for the postseason.
With them not trading Draymond Green, they are hopeful in the new frontcourt pairing of Green and Porzingis.
For Kuminga, this is the beginning of a new chapter of his young NBA career. In Atlanta, he is expected to get a larger role than what was offered to him in Golden State. If that comes true, then he will have the chance to prove to the league that he is a starter in the NBA and can play at a high level.
