According to multiple reports, the San Antonio Spurs are still trying to determine if future Hall of Famer head coach Gregg Popovich will make his much anticipated return.
Great news is that he is “ahead of schedule” in his recovery since suffering the stroke in November. However, per ESPN’s reporting, there are people within the organization who aren’t too sure if he will return to the sidelines next season.
As a reminder, Popovich is 76 years old. While he remains to have a passion for coaching basketball, it’s only a matter of how treatment goes and if he has the stamina for a full season with or without playoffs.
The last time Popovich made an appearance with the Spurs was back on February 27th, which saw him address his team and give an update surrounding his medical status.
Before Victor Wembanyama suffered the blood clot in his shoulder, there were reports of Popovich trying to make a comeback after the All-Star break.
“It’s Pop’s decision,” one person close to the situation told ESPN. “He’s earned that.”
Mitch Johnson continues to serve as the interim head coach.
