According to the Memphis Grizzlies, they will be without center Zach Edey for at least six more weeks, as he continues his rehab from a stress reaction in his left ankle. Consulting experts said it was in Edey’s best interest to continue rehab and not rush back to play on the court.
This injury was originally diagnosed on December 11th, as the 23-year-old has only appeared in eleven games this season. He missed the start of the season due to offseason ankle surgery.
While his ankle has given him problems with availability, when he is on the court, he is an absolute force to reckon with. This season, Edey is averaging 13.6 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.1 assists.
Before the injury, Edey was establishing himself as a key frontcourt rotational piece. His interior defense and rebounding skills have created a void within the roster that the team is desperately trying to fix while waiting for his return.
