Kings Haven’t Talked About Extending Mike Brown

According to The Athletic, head coach Mike Brown wants to return to the Sacramento Kings, but Sacramento is currently weighing their options.

There appears to be a prove-it attitude towards extending him, as ownership and the front office may be wary of him. This is terrifying in the sense that he is entering the final year of his contract.

His last guaranteed season is 2024-25; the following season is a mutual option. While he’s expected to return next season, there are expected to be some mangled relationships and feelings due to this extension hold off.

Brown has finished his second year of coaching with the Kings, amassing a record of 94-70. His playoff record is 3-4.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, Zach LaVine has full intentions of opting into his $48.9 million player option for next season. This season, he stands to make $47.5 million.

The league-wide expectation is that the 30-year-old will not be traded at this year’s NBA deadline. This is wildly due to his massive remaining contract.

However, this upcoming offseason, it is entirely likely to see Sacramento trading LaVine as an expiring contract for the 2026-27 season. Despite carrying the massive contract, they could find value for LaVine from a team looking to clear salary for the 2027 offseason.

This season, LaVine is averaging 19.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.

According to The Athletic’s Sam Amick, the Sacramento Kings are open to trading away Domantas Sabonis for the right price. While his contract is massive, teams aren’t concerned about that and are still showing great interest in the center.

As it stands, the Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Toronto Raptors, and Chicago Bulls have all shown legit interest in trading for the 29-year-old.

While Phoenix would need to get creative on what contracts they would offer and how they’ll do it, other teams like the Wizards and Bulls would give Sacramento their expiring contracts to entice them to give up Sabonis.

The Raptors are the perceived wild card in this fold, as Toronto would be willing to trade a player like RJ Barrett to the Kings for better center position strength. Plus, Barrett was drafted by the Kings current general manager Scott Perry.

Sabonis is set to make $42.3 million this year, $45.5 million next season, and $48.6 million in 2027-28.

According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, confirmed by the Sacramento Kings, Keegan Murray has suffered a mild calf strain. An MRI was used for this diagnosis.

He will be re-evaluated in one week.

The 25-year-old has only appeared in 15 games this season, as he missed the first 15 games due to rehabbing from thumb surgery that took place in the preseason.

For Murray, he is usually a very healthy player. The least amount of games he has played in a season was 76 games (2024-25 season).

This season, he is averaging 14.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.7 blocks per game.
