The Raptors WANT a NEW roster and find NO PURPOSE for THEIR PLAYERS!
The Raptors WANT a NEW roster and find NO PURPOSE for THEIR PLAYERS! With the trade deadline ending on the 25th of March, the Raptors are looking for a new lineup. That includes several players; some of them which were in speculation of several months back.
Who are these players?
They are wanting and willing to trade Norman Powell and Kyle Lowry.
First up… Lowry!
With Lowry heading into his final season with the Raptors, due to his contract, they are hoping to offload him for great assets. Maybe a pick, a younger player of his position who knows. This is most likely going to happen as the Raptors are leaning towards not resigning the veteran; plus, I believe a departure would be best for both sides.
Also, giving up Lowry will allow you to clear up a roster space, maybe get a great piece. Hopefully a pick in the upcoming year or two, and get someone younger and fresher to lead this team. Currently they are in the 11th seed and are looking for a new start. After Kawhi left two seasons ago, Ibaka left last year… no doubt they want to start fresh.
Up next… Powell!
Powell is interesting but it makes sense why they are looking to ship him off, why? Because despite having his best season ever, both sides are looking to part ways. Mainly him due to him looking to decline the pick-up year for an extension, this means he wants a new start. Probably get a solid contract for $25 million, be a starter with 25-30 minutes. Life would be set.
The Raptors are making the smart move because Powell, even though averaging great numbers, have failed to win games and having exploding chemistry on the court. And when your team don’t start winning games and have a losing streak of any sorts, you know it is a bad deal. Meaning, that something is not clicking.
Since the Raptors are going all in, they may be looking into next year’s draft and seeing if they can squeeze out any good picks. Hopefully a top-ten pick, unlikely, but looking for it. Also, they need younger and more versatile players. Meaning, someone that is able to do it all. Or at least able to shoot, pass, and connect in chemistry… consistently.
Nonetheless, this is the smart choice for the Raptors. One is a veteran and the other wants out too. Get good picks/players and see what you can judge.
With all that being said, who is inquiring about these players?
Rumor has it many teams, however, these are the top two teams:
Those two names right there are interested in Lowry, who is set to have another pay-day this offseason. They are very interested and are willing to go all-in, sort of, for these players. What the sort of entails is that they are not doing this recklessly. However, smartly.
Forget the Heat for a minute, why? Because Philly may be going all-in, putting the chips in the middle and trying to bluff and play their way in to getting these players. Why would I say that?
Here is why I say this: They are trying to make two separate deals to Toronto for these players. Strong hype is coming from Philly on getting these players, that is what is rumored to be.
This would have the force of Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid, Dwight Howard, Kyle Lowry, and Norman Powell. Let’s be crystal clear on something, they have even more talent. Imagine adding those two too the mix of talent of the bench, role player positions, and even starting minutes. Just imagine.
Also, the 76ers are not done looking at all the cards on the table. How so? They have also talked in relation with other point guards, such as whom? Lonzo Ball and George Hill. Hill is a sneaky good player that would break out as a role player or at least a player that averages 13/4/2 off of 20 minutes. Also, Lonzo Ball would not be a bad choice either.
Interesting thoughts to ponder about. I bet you everything they will make all their moves tomorrow, the 24th of March.
Toronto Talk: Why is this important for them?
Look, I already covered rebuilding, getting younger talent. Truth be told this is an expansion of younger talent. They have O.G., VanVleet, and Siakam. Now they just need to keep building out; preferably when you get rid of those two, you would need the following positons:
SG is for Powell being gone and they have nobody else behind him that is even relevant or good. Also, center, your main one, can not rely upon Aaron Baynes. Baynes is good but not your full-time center. They need someone younger or at least more talented. I would make the exception for Dwight Howard or even the Heat’s center/power-forward Kelly Olynyk.
I bet you, if they do it smart and it good logistically, that they do Lowry to Philly and Powell to Heat. Something like that because Olynyk or Howard would be great. If they were focusing on Center, because they have enough shooters and passers, I would focus on Olynyk. Why?
Due to the fact that he is younger, more talented, able to get more use out of him, and the possibilities are endless. That would add to their young-core, plus center would be checked. Baynes would be the backup and he would be the full-time starter. Not a bad deal, now they just have to structure the trade properly for it to work both ways.
Open discussion time!
What do you guys think is going to happen? Do you think one of these players will get traded to Philly and/or Miami? Also, what is the probably of this happening for Howard or Olynyk? Let us know in the comment section below.
