Dwane Casey and the Pistons have come to an agreement on a new deal! This just end that Dwane Casey and the Pistons have signed a new contract; have to terms on a new agreement that would extend his old contract.
Yes, you read that correctly as the Pistons are looking for Casey to continue the rebuild alongside the front office. Their GM, Troy Weaver, is excited to see Casey back and hopes to have a better season to come when the rebuild is complete. Which, as I would tend to believe, that the rebuild should end before his time is up.
So, about this new contract? Yes, so, basically his old contract had two more years on it; however, they have come to terms to add another season on it to make it run through the 2023-24 season. That is the plan and both sides came to an agreement. The second-year HC with the team will continue his work with the team as they are going into full rebuild mode. Hence the reason why they got rid of Griffin, Drummond, and a few other guys.
Detroit has always been high on Casey after his seven years with the Raptors ended, which was three years ago. Ownership loves him, front office loves him, and the players are following his guidance and orders. They really liked the development of Jerami Grant after recently signing him before the season. Then with the other veterans and whatnot.
So, yeah, that is where we are at. Casey is back, the rebuild is officially official, and they are looking to have this rebuild done within the next 3-6 years. That would be my take on it and the smartest take, why? Because you can not rebuild your entire team, when looking for the right pieces and assets, in 1-2 years. Simply can not be done unless you are looking for older talent that would fill a potential Big-3. But they won’t find anyone like the way Pat Riley or the Celtics did. So yeah.
