It only took the Nets two days to find the perfect suitor for Kyrie Irving, and that ideal suitor was the Dallas Mavericks. Since Irving’s trade value was lower than usual (given his past seasons of productions), Dallas got him for nothing.

Dallas agreed to acquire Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris from Brooklyn for Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, an unprotected first-round pick in 2029, and second-round picks in 2027 and 2029.

The Mavericks found Jalen Brunson’s replacement by trading for Kyrie, plus finding their second star player to play aside Luka Doncic. Doncic approved the trade as Irving is “ecstatic” to be joining the Mavericks.

Both sides will wait until the end of the season to determine if there will be an extension and a future for Irving. So for the remainder of this season, Kyrie Irving will be a rental player for the Mavericks until they make their final determination come this off-season.

Both the Lakers and Mavericks were talking to the Nets on Sunday morning, but the Lakers just didn’t put together the best offer when comparing it to the Mavericks’ offer. Los Angeles was willing to offer Russell Westbrook and a first-rounder, but Brooklyn didn’t find that enough.

In the end, Kyrie Irving was shipped off to Dallas to join Luka Doncic in the backcourt. The end of an era for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving in Brooklyn has taken place.
