And who said Hayward wasn’t good at making MORE money?
And who said Hayward wasn’t good at making MORE money? Family reunions are in-play, making money at a high, rejecting money is at a high, my oh my!
Gordon Hayward is making moves that nobody, including I, was seen coming. The Hornets, ESPN, and CourtSideHeat broke the news yesterday that Hayward has signed a huge contract. “What’s the contract?” You may be asking, the numbers will blow your mind.
The contract is worth $120 million dollars for 4-years; however, this is not the first time the Hornets tried pursuing Hayward. In 2014, when Hayward was an RFA, the Hornets put an offer in for him. Sadly for the Hornets, he decided to go with Utah’s offer,
It only took a day for Gordon Hayward to get a big-money contract since opting out of the final season; he did opt-out of the $34.2 million dollar player option. He pretty much sacrificed $4 million dollars more for this season to have a guarantee of $30 million dollars per year until the contract expires. Smart. Just smart.
The Hornets, to make room for Hayward, are releasing Nic Batum. Batum’s $27 million dollar cap hit will play out over the next three seasons; since signing that max contract, worth $120 million for 5 years, in July 2016; his scoring averages and everything dropped off considerably. For last season, in the past 22 games, he averaged 3 points and 4 rebounds. Bust material? Yep, it is looking that way.
