According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Detroit Pistons and Cade Cunningham have agreed to a new contract. This sees their franchise player here for the next five seasons.

Cunningham is set to make $224 million over the next five years, possibly growing to $269 million if he makes an All-NBA team this season.

His first contract was his rookie contract at four years, $45.5 million. The 22-year-old’s new contract will last him through 2029.

The former first-overall pick averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in 62 games last season. Cunningham is heading into his fourth season.

According to The Athletic’s James L. Edwards, the signs are pointing towards the former number one overall pick (of the 2021 NBA draft class) to be getting his rookie max extension from the Detroit Pistons. Edwards said he would be “stunned” if they didn’t give him one.

“I’m 99.9 percent sure that Cunningham gets an extension this offseason,” writes Edwards. “I don’t want to say 100 percent because you never know what can happen, but I’d be stunned if the 2021 No. 1 overall pick doesn’t sign a max rookie extension.”

During the 2023-24 season, the 22-year-old averaged 22.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 7.5 assists in 33.5 minutes per game (62 appearances).

At the end of the day, Bryant is speaking loudly what many of us is thinking internally. Truthfully, I believe he has a shot and that would give jolt to the city of Detroit, Michigan.
