Fred VanVleet to sign a new contract worth $110 million dollars

The Raptors are expected to sign Fred VanVleet to a new contract worth four-years, $110 million dollars. This comes after re-signing with the team two years ago, why would they want to give him even more years and money? Simple. Toronto did it to extend the best player on their team in hopes of making the playoffs soon.

VanVleet was an All-Star in 2022, averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 6.7 assists in his first season without Kyle Lowry. That was such a huge marker for the 28-year-old as soon as the deal is over he will be well into his 30’s.

His original contract was four-years, $85 million dollars. The largest contract in NBA history for an undrafted player.

The Houston Rockets were heavily pursuing Fred VanVleet ever since VanVleet declined his player option and wanted to test the open market.

It appeared the Toronto Raptors had no shot of retaining VanVleet as it felt more and more surreal for Rockets’ fans to have VanVleet on their roster.

Per Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports, Fred VanVleet will most likely not be ending up with Philadelphia. The team is reportedly not expected to pursue the free-agent guard.

It doesn’t matter the decision James Harden makes, the 76ers aren’t interested. Despite the hiring of VanVleet’s old head coach Nick Nurse, there is belief there won’t be a reunion.

VanVleet is an unrestricted free agent, which means he can sign anywhere he likes. The Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets, and Los Angeles Lakers have shown interest in signing the guard.
