Jason Kidd interviewing for the HC position of the Magics!

Jason Kidd interviewing for the HC position of the Magics! The Lakers are granting more and more interviews to be done with Jason Kidd, the LakeShow’s assistant HC, for opening head coach positions. The latest? Rumors have confirmed that the latest grant has been for the Orlando Magic, who has been desperately looking for a coach.

The interview should be taking place some time this week as Fox Sports was able to confirm that. There has been a lot of speculation between the Bucks, Magic, Celtics, and everyone else wanting to secure an interview with him. Bucks would be an interesting one since he was a coach for the Bucks until John Hammond, former GM of Bucks and current of the Magic, did not renew his contract. So, the Bucks would be interesting and then now the Celtics and Magic are interesting. More will be said throughout the weeks when interviews are concluding and everyone has a better sense of what is happening.

Jason Kidd Being Hired By Knicks Not Off The Table

According to Ian Begley of SNY, the New York Knicks’ chances of stealing Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks is not off the table. In fact, that opportunity “is not completely closed.”

Since Monday, New York being able to hire Kidd is still in the realm of possibility. This is even with the Knicks already being denied by the Mavericks.

Since being hired in 2021, Kidd has led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals twice and the NBA Finals once. Many are expecting Dallas to fight tooth and nail to retain their beloved coach.

New York is moving to their other plans, if they truly can’t secure Kidd. They’ll be interviewing both Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins this week for their open position.

Before adding to their list with Kidd, the Knicks attempted to sway other coaches from their current teams. This includes Billy Donovan, Quin Snyder, Ime Udoka, and Chris Finch. In case anyone is wondering, all of them said no.

Mavericks Denying Knicks Request To Interview Jason Kidd

According to Marc Stein, the Dallas Mavericks have declined the New York Knicks formal request to speak to their head coach about their open position in New York.

Dallas wants to retain Jason Kidd for the upcoming season, so that a brilliant coach can develop Cooper Flagg and gel together the rest of team for a potential postseason run.

Over the past couple of days, New York’s front office compiled a list of head coaches they wanted to speak with, and Kidd’s name was top on the list. Other names were along the lines of Ime Udoka and Chris Finch.

Like the Mavericks, the Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves shot down their attempt to talk to their head coach. It is unclear what direction New York will trend in after getting denied.

They will most likely stop sending in formal requests to other teams, and rather go in the direction of head coach free agency.

Top coaches available would be Mike Malone, Taylor Jenkins, James Borrego, and Mike Brown.

There's Mutual Interest Between The Knicks & Jason Kidd

According to multiple reports, spearheaded by ESPN, since the firing of Tom Thibodeau, the New York Knicks have been constructing their list of possible head coach candidates. This has ranged from Houston Rockets coach Ime Udoka to Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd.

While Houston has no interest in allowing their successful coach to interview for the Knicks open position, the Mavericks are giving Kidd the option to stay or to leave. Several reports have said Dallas won’t hold it against him if that’s the decision he wants to make.

New York is expected to reach out to the Mavericks to request an interview with Kidd, as both sides have mutual interest in one another.

“The way I would describe this is there’s mutual intrigue on both sides,” said Brian Windhorst on Monday’s Sports Center.

Kidd signed an extension during the Mavericks run to the NBA Finals back in 2024. It’s unclear whether the 52-year-old would want to leave Dallas in hopes of competing for a championship soon, or stay and develop Cooper Flagg – assuming the Mavericks select him.
